Good bye

We are so sad to say good bye to Mrs. Flore. She will be done with her student teaching this Friday Dec. 9th. Please help us say good bye to her by having the kids make her something to let her know how much we will miss her. It could be as simple as a card made by the child.

We are moving into word families. We are focusing on short a word family and then will move on to other short vowel word families.

Introduce High Frequency words

Segmenting two to three sounds in a word.

Comprehension – sequence or events in the story

Math:

Working on number quantities 0-10

One to one correspondence

Order numbers 0-20

Counting 0-50

Writing:

Draw a pictures and label parts

It was nice to read journals. Please help them with spacing and punctuation. Please make sure the children are using their letter sounds and word wall words to communicate their ideas. DO NOT WRITE IT FOR THEM!! Phonetic writing is encouraged.

So many of our kids have mastered all their letter sounds or are so close. Please keep working with them at home with our zoo phonics cards.

Yee Ha

If your child come home saying they got a YEE HA today that means they were tested on their letter sounds and were able to give them all in a random order.
If they did get this honor please begin to work on our next goal which is letter names and sounds in random order.

So far we are doing great, and I am sure we will make our goal. As you remember I wanted all the children to master all their sounds by the end of the first quarter. The end is in just two weeks.

lockdown

We had our lockdown this morning and it went well. Some of our students had a hard time being completely quiet but for the most part it was a good first run.

This week

We have a lock down drill scheduled for Sept 14 I am not sure of the time.

W have at least half our class that have mastered most if not all of their letter sounds. Please keep practicing with your child. If you child already knows all their letter sounds start practicing letter name with the sounds. After this week we only have 5 more letters to go and then we will move into word families.

If your are planning on helping at any time during the school year including field trips please see the office for a volunteer packet. If that has not been done and turned in you will not be able to assist us on a field trip.

We are planning our first field trip some time in November.

Chick Fil A night

It was great to see so many of you at Chick Fil A night. I had so much fun!

Ice Cream party

Today we started our ice cream graph. As a reward to the children for learning all their letter sounds we will have an ice cream party. We are graphing our progress and once we have all mastered our sounds we will have an ice cream party as a class reward. Please help your child nightly so that we can meet our goal and have our party as soon as possible. Here is a good video for them to practice on line.

Next Weeks Events

Picture Day
Just a reminder that picture day papers went home today. Pictures will be taken next week money is due on the day pictures are taken.

End of the Month Celebration
We will have our ice cream float end of the month celebration next Friday. We are still in need of ice cream and root beer donations. Please contact the office if you are willing to help with this event.

Pencil boxes
I am requesting that all the children have a pencil box they leave at school. As you all know they share a desk with another student and they have items that they are expected to store in their desk. I believe this will help keep another student form taking their items by mistake.

Great Start

The year is off to a great start! The children are really getting use to our rules and routines. Please make sure you are working with your child daily on their letter names and sounds. It is also important to practice writing their names and numbers.

If you are planning on volunteering in our class please see me so that I can give you a volunteer form to fill out.

Please take the time to get use to using out blogg I update our spelling words weekly and try to post pictures of the students in action as the year goes on.
